F.R. Male Memorial
About Us

The golf classic was organized in 1989 to benefit The Francis R. Male, Sr. Scholarship Fund and The AIDS Resource Foundation for Children.  A scholarship is awarded each year to an eighth grade student at St. Catharine's School in Spring Lake, NJ.  The plaque that hangs in the school, displaying the names of the recipients, reads:

Francis R. Male lived a full Christian life.  He loved his family and enjoyed good friends.  Francis had a generous heart, was a hard worker and a lover of sports.  He was a promoter of Catholic education and an encouragement to children of all ages.  Francis loved life!

The winner of the scholarship must be an excellent student and a leader who displays these qualities and characteristics.

The AIDS Resource Foundation for Children, based in Newark, NJ, is a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of children and families who are medically fragile and/or dealing with the day-to-day realities of AIDS.

Currently there are four facilities in operation in New Jersey.

The Academy Street Firehouse - Newark
St. Clare's Home for Children - Elizabeth, Jersey City and
Neptune

The Foundation offers many outreach programs and services as well as providing housing for client families through the Scattered Site Housing Project.  The St. Clare's Homes provide a loving and supportive environment for children who are in transition and have an uncertain future.  There is also a summer and winter camp held each year for the children and their families.
